New Snacks for Your Ears.

GEORGE EZRA :
I got chills from this video! (And maybe I'm cold cause my window is open and I'm too lazy to get up and close it...) This kids voice is very unusual, but really cool. I love how you can hear the rain on the recording too.

ICONA POP :
I saw these guys play at Bardot's School Night... and yes I was sleep deprived the next day at my 9-5. They were spinning and singing at the same time. It was preeeeeetty dope. Icona Pop makes me want to cut my hair all edgy and dance all night...with glowstick bracelets.

"I Like Flat Butts and I can't not, wait what?"

I have a 9-5. An office job. A desk jockey. Which means 8 hours of office chair squashing my pretty decently shaped boot into a pancake. I try to stand for part of the day, flex in my seat, do squats behind my desk, but it looks awkward to other people in the showroom who don't know what I'm doing and it doesn't do much to counteract my badonk turning into this...

"America, I'm Talking About Sweeeet America..."

Since I have decided that I am far enough along in my life to start becoming proficient at cooking, I thought a little dinner party might be a good idea. I just started cooking over the past couple of years and have found it to be rather enjoyable, but sometimes a bit daunting. The only disaster this time was that my oven decided to die when the food was only half way cooked. (Thanks neighbor who let me intrude this afternoon and use your kitchen!) I had scoured Pinterest all day for the most awesome of recipes while becoming really really hungry from all of the incredible edibles it had. I decided upon a classic all-American meal:

+ Baked Chicken,
+ Brussle Sprouts w/ Bacon,
+ Baked Macaroni & Cheese,
+ Rootbeers (in glass bottles of course),
+ Watermelon Slices
+ Coconut Milk Chocolate Filled Strawberries

This meal was reminiscent of the 4th of July neighborhood bbq on The Sandlot. I imagine this is about the same meal that they were eating. Oh, but if only my yard was large enough to accommodate a baseball diamond... and giant kid eating dog. Someday perhaps. Maybe we can just get James Earl Jones? (note to self...get a Star's Homes Map next time I'm up on Sunset Blvd.)

Mmm, warm fuzzies.

Art Appreciation

Went up to the Getty last night. Had a quick little browse of the Herb Ritts photography exhibit. This one was by far my favorite. Super ominous...

The finger up the nose was a deliberate move on Lucie's part after seeing that I was taking her picture. Like the two things went together... hhmm

Night In The City Looks Pretty To Me

Ghost hand? Am I dancing? Shaking it like a polaroid picture?
I was just saying the other day that I wanted to start going to more art shows in LA. They are happening all over the place here but are somewhat hidden and hard to find. But behold, a day later I was invited to an art show. Ask and you shall receive eh?

Our pal Koury Angelo who is a splendidly skilled photographer had a sweet exhibit at The MIME in Silverlake. I had to park on an almost vertical hill nearby but made it all the way down without rolling. I hate to admit it but I really like Silverlake... it is as cool as the hipsters say it is... or as cool as they say it is cause they knew about it way before anyone else did.

Our faces are trying to express the level of volume that was going on in the place. That band definitely had the amps that went to 11.
The music was so loud that 20 somethings started to evacuate the space like someone was giving away free american apparel deep v-necks outside the building. I think my ears were bleeding after being in there for 10 mins. All in all it was a good time though. Let's make this happen again soon gang!

It's About Time!

Fiona Apple is finally coming out with a new album. It is sort of frustrating that my all time favorite musician is one of the most reclusive and lets huge amounts of time lapse between albums. Well, she has done it again...after a 7 year hiatus we are finally hearing something new from the gal. Come on Fiona, quit leaving us hanging!

This is a cute little video of a little Fiona Apple at around 6 yrs old being better at piano than me who is 24...

Back in November me and Mallory did a lil' photo sesh out in the court yard of my building... I'm sure the neighbors weren't creeped out at all by me jumping around in the trees out side of their windows. Hhhmm...

Chitty Chitty White Stripes?

Has anyone else noticed that Jack Black is really starting to resemble the Kid Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? He's just one Cyrano De Bergerac nose short of being a dead ringer. Man did that flick give me some nightmares as a kid...

And the Oscar goes to...

So this years Oscars were definitely a step up from last years pathetic excuse for a show. Ugh, I'm still cringing at Ann Hathaway hosting 2011. My favorite moment was by far the Cirque Du Soleil performance, I'm pretty sure they just sold me a ticket by that performance. Aside from some awkward moments (Angelina Jolie's stupid leg, Robert Downey Jr.'s documentary bit, and the mere presents of J.Lo being at an awards show celebrating acting and movie making when her outstanding acting career boasts quality films such as Gigli, Anaconda, and Maid In Manhattan...[come on Academy, where were her nominations for those films?]) So all in all I'd say it was a good show and the films nominated deserved to be there for the most part. I was surprised though that Drive got jilted out of a best picture nomination. Come on that movie was superb! And Gosling...sigh, wonderful.

I was however kind of underwhelmed by the fashion choices of the night. I feel like everyone has been playing it safe the past couple years and no one goes for a show stopping look. Boy I'd show them... if only they would invite me...I'd show them. So here are my picks for best dressed of the night. Feel free to rebuttle or share yours.

BEST DRESSED

I love Rooney Mara's style, she's so high fashion and always looks very bold and put together. All the detailing on this dress was hard to see but really pretty. It almost looks like spiderwebbing...but in a cool way.

There is always a special place reserved in my heart for some Alexander McQueen... side note, how did Tree of Life not win anything? Just watched it and wow, amazing! Jessica Chastane was great in it too.

Next is the ensemble from Bridesmaids. Non of their dresses were spectacular by themselves but once you put them all together they made each other look better. Very Captain Planet of you ladies. ;)
(...with our powers combined...)

Of course Milla Jovovich would look great, being a former super model and all.

It seems like the older gals were on their A game last night; Meryl, Glenn hats off to you broads.

Dang I better get to the gym, Glenn Close is outdoing me.

One that I thought was lovely but didn't get nearly enough praise was Berenice Bejo. I thought her mint green dress was fun, different, and a throwback to old Hollywood glamour. It was like if fireworks and sprinkles had a baby. Marvelous...

And I couldn't make up my mind whether I liked Michelle Williams ruffley bedazzle bow dress. Normally she is hands down my favorite for style and her Golden Globes dress was awesome. I just couldn't fully get excited about this years choice, maybe if it would have been styled different or something... I don't know.

WORST

I'd have to say worst goes to:
Viola Davis- the only thing I can think of is Nickelodeon slime when looking at this.

Natalie Portman- I am always pretty disappointed with her red carpet choices. She always picks frumpy stuff or things that are the wrong color for her, or that are just plain boring. And this year...poka dots? Really?! That looked like something a girl could pick up from JCPenney. Step up your game Portman.

Angelina Jolie- Oh God the leg! Why?! Also that dress looked very similar to the rope and scrap of fabric that Ariel washed up in on shore. Mixing a heavy fabric like velvet with the way it's draped just makes it look bulky & messy.

Um, is this girl the daughter of some rifle toting over-protective dad who won't let her leave the house without full body covered? This was like Amish meets Star Wars meets "I made it myself" project. Love you in The Descendants hun, but this dress killed it for me... and not in a good way.
