BBBZZZZ!

Oh June Bugs, you are probably the only cute, catchable bugs besides lady bugs to me. It's almost that time of year that you will be coming out! You neat giant green beetles are pretty fun. Why hasn't anyone made any jewelry featuring the june bug? I would fork over some bucks for some. You guys gotta get a pr agent or something... I hear cranberries have good representation.

And the whole sounding like helicopters thing could use some work too, get some mufflers. sheesh!

Let the Oscars Begin!

It must be a miracle because it is 2:00 am and I am still awake... or the 5 hour energy I took one tiny sip of (dang those things pack a punch.) I thought I would prep with a little energy zap before a 10pm party (cause I'm an old lady who falls asleep at 7:30 these days) but I think I got more than I bargained for, cause I will probably be up all night now. Check out what we did tonight: a pre-Oscar's party hosted by Eva Longoria at Beso in Hollywood. Wining, dining, red carpet, etc!

At Beso, for a night of fun and an excuse to wear our fancy shoes. We enjoyed all sorts of fun things including a flamenco dancing show, spanish guitar players, "guess her plastic surgery procedure", and drinks on the nice bartender. Thank you kind sir, whatever your name was...
Oh, roses for me! You shouldn't have Ms. Longoria...

The flamenco dancing was just like that scene out of Mission Impossible 2... except no Tom Cruise... and no top secret espionage mission. So, neat but not nearly as exciting. (Where you at Ethan Hunt?!)

Me and co-pilot Lauren Rodriguez out for a night of fun/making fun of LA cougars.

By the end of the night our lil feet hurt but we made some neat new friends and a good time was had by all. Ohlay!!

Let's go to Madonna!

A couple of months ago, due to increased stress levels and the blues, I felt the urge to get in my car and just drive, straight out of town, no definite destination or plan. Just the road under my tires and Los Angeles in my rear-view. However spontaneous I was feeling, I did pause for a moment to throw some necessities in a bag and throw my room mate Lauren in the car for camaraderie. We drove, with windows down, blasted peppy girl power-esque music, and (shocker) had no traffic. Our car pointed North we drove about 4 hours and got to San Louis Obispo at around 11:30, not prime check in time for hotels. We drove all around town looking for a place to sleep. They were either all full or were super expensive and being the cheepos that we are, refused to pay over $60 for a room. Soooo, needless to say we camped...in the backseat of my car parked on some residential street hoping to not be discovered or broken into. All in good fun eh?

We did stumble upon this neat little spot in San Louis Obispo that was pretty killer, called The Madonna Inn. It beaconed us from the freeway looking like the "It's A Small World Ride" from Disneyland, but in hotel form, complete with colorful magical lights. All of the rooms are decorated with it's own unique style that are pretty quirky, and awesome! Check out some of my favorites and go visit sometime soon.

Harold: “I love you.” Maude: “Oh Harold, that’s wonderful. Go and love some more.”

For some reason this movie makes me think of being a kid in the cold northwest and people wearing those weird quilted nylon jackets, and my parents old high school year books, and the smell of garage sales. But what a lovely tale... I would like to watching Harold & Maude right now and drink hot chocolate. But I will have to settle for some easy mac and youtube clips...since my vcr isn't hooked up yet. Mmm, vcr.

(this scene with his mother is the best... <3

"I have here Harold, the forms sent out by the National Computer Dating Service. They screen out the fat and the ugly, so it is obviously a firm of high standards. First, here is the personality interview, which you are to fill out and return. Now then are you ready, Harold? Here is the first question. Are you uncomfortable meeting new people? Well, I think thats a yes, don't you agree Harold? Should sex education be taught outside the home? I would say no, wouldn't you Harold? Yeah, we'll give a D there. Three- Should women run for President of the United States? Well I don't see why not. Absolutely yes. Do you remember jokes and take pleasure relating them to others? Well you don't do that do you Harold? Absolutely not. Do you often get the feeling that perhaps life isn't worth living? What do you think Harold? B? Oh, we'll put down C, not sure. Mmmmm hmmmm. Is the subject of sex being over exploited by our mass media? Oh well that would have to be yes. Is it difficult for you to accept critiscism? Nooo, we'll mark D. Do you sometimes have headaches or backaches after a difficult day? Yes I do indeed. Do you go to sleep easily? I'd say so. Do you believe in capital punishment for murder? Oh yes, I do indeed. In your opinion are social affairs a waste of time? Heavens no! Can God influence our lives? Absolutely yes. Does your personal religion or philosophy include a life after death? Yes indeed, absolutely yes. Did you enjoy life as a child? Yes, you were a wonderful baby Harold. Do you think the sexual revolution has gone too far? It certainly has. Do you find wife-swapping distasteful? I even find the question distasteful. Do you- **gunshot** Harold please! Do you have ups anddowns without obvious reason? Haha, thats you Harold!)

Chutes, Ladders, Jesus & Batman?

This is how my family plays board games; losing most of the pieces in the messy storage closet, then coming up with neat alternatives for an eclectic gang of representatives for each player. I chose Batman... sorry, somebody had already called you Jesus.

It's amazing how simple this game is, yet it can bring the strongest of us to our knees.... Yah little kid, you just had to play baseball in the house and break the flipping window? Now I have to start all the way down on square 5! (fist shaking in air) (..."Look what you did you little jerk")

Be Mine? Um...

While trying to hunt down the perfect gifts and trinkets for my Valentine, I came across some interesting alternatives for sending some "love" this season. Here are some of my favorite odd valentines. Oh clever people, what will they come up with next? Har Har Har...sigh....

Sunburn in January.

For all of you folks that hate on Los Angeles, who think that it is a miserable, dusty, smoggy, real housewives of oc kind of place to live do I have news for you! Yesterday, January 29th, I did in fact, sunbath next to the pool in bikini appropriate type weather. Now I know being it January, most of the world is battling snow storms, constant rain, and shivering cold spells. But alas, here in the grand city of Angels, I can not only get fro-yo easier than water, I can have summer in the "coldest" season of all. (Muuhahahaha....maniacal laugh...maniacal laugh....)

Speaking of bikinis and great weather, I have found a bit of art that I rather fancy. These photos taken by Massimo Vitali seem to be on topic. I love how they are sort of like a fancier Where's Waldo, but without Waldo. It's amazing how much energy the pictures contain when there are so many people in them. I get that feeling when I am in a big baseball stadium or concert hall. Something about the energy of hundreds of thousands of people, all in such close proximity, all focused sometimes on the same thing... it's almost spooky. It's like a giant but muffled buzz of a bee hive; a low dubious humming. (shiver)

Well enjoy these shots.

Cake surprise!

So here are some pictures from a cake that me & my wonderful friend Raijina Boswell (master cake baker extraordinaire) made for my birthday back in November. We did a 6 layer rainbow layer cake with a white buttercream sparkle exterior. So it looked like a boring old white cake at first, but alas when cut into a festive array of prismy awesomeness! Check out Raijina's site and if your in LA have her make you a neato cake! http://incrediblebouquets.blogspot.com/

cake officially destroyed!

Narrating life...

I can't remember the last time I paused to let every piece of data entering my brain to wash over my cognitive mind, like savoring a taste, realizing it is sweet, or salty, it's texture. I followed my thoughts as they came to me. Telling myself what I was seeing exactly and processing each sensory experience. I was pouring creamer into my coffee, I was stirring it in, clockwise, my hand was gripping the spoon, my brain was communicating to my hand to hold the spoon and stir it in a clockwise motion. It was swirling together, the colors blending together, actually focusing my eyes on the liquid in my glass, rather than just zoning out and going through the motions of things on auto pilot.

Not thinking of something off in the distance, a worry that I could do nothing about at that time, a looming job interview, a conversation with a friend, the breakfast that I still hadn't made at 11:30am... But right there, I truly stopped to live in the moment. I broke that moment down to molecules, and each bit of it I tasted. It's amazing how much of our time we go about life taking for granted all of the ridiculously complex matter around us, and how amazing it all is. Like right now, I'm writing down a thought that I had, in my brain, this big glob of mush in my body that thinks things, (THINKS thoughts, oh God what does that even mean!?) and by scratching liney shapes on a piece of flattened tree is able to store it here (my notebook) or share it with others who are similarly educated in the code I am scratching in. Sheesh.

How could anyone in their right mind ever experience boredom?

Baby Toupee!

Me and baby Conan Obrien? Or is it baby Donald Trump? Your votes decide America...

Magic in the City.

If you live in the greater Los Angeles area you must go to the Bourgeois Pig coffee shop. It is "the tits."

Open till 2:30 am with free wifi and you feel like you are in a magical fairy land tree house nook. I know, it sounds too good to be true. I never noticed it tucked in next to UCB Theater and the newspaper stand until I wondered in there one night in search of gluten free food for my room mate before a UCB show.

They have big comfy vintage couches, dark lighting, great music, good coffee, and a back room that looks like something that would be in Hogwarts.

I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the Hollywood/Los Feliz area and like magical wonderful creative spots.

The tree room moon brought out the werewolf in me.

Lauren, my room mate in the little hut nook, perfect for creative writing. You can leave little notes in the cupboard for other patrons to read or write on the table.

Geek glasses and a lederhosen apparently make for a good combo the other night. Out to dinner with pals in Studio City... we ate till we had to unbutton that top button on our pants...or for me on my lederhosen. Fun fun for everyone!

Mary Blair

I find that children's books have some of the neatest art work in them. I was flipping through a some books illustrated by Mary Blair and didn't know whether I wanted to eat the pictures or hang them on my wall. They are like candy for your eyes!
